Aiming to mobilise wider women’s support, the BJP has appointed Dr Archana Gupta, a radiologist, as president of its Haryana unit. Gupta is only the second woman chosen to lead the BJP’s unit in Haryana, a state often criticised for its patriarchal society and low sex ratio. The first woman to hold this position was Dr Kamla Verma, who served from 1980 to 1983. After a gap of 43 years, the party has once again entrusted its state leadership to a woman.

Chapter 01

Academic Foundations

Gupta was born in Samalkha in Panipat district. Her grandfather, Lala Sooraj Bhan of Atta village, was a freedom fighter, a detail the party has highlighted. She completed her degree in medicine and a master’s in radiology from Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Rohtak, and is a gold medallist in her subject. She runs a diagnostic centre in Panipat with her husband, Dr Anil Gupta, an eye specialist.

Before stepping into broad political leadership, Dr. Archana Gupta built her foundation directly within local communities. Her public life began with hands-on social work, stepping into rural neighborhoods to identify real public struggles firsthand. Long before managing state-level organization, she focused on basic civic welfare, local health initiatives, and youth skill gaps.

Dr. Archana Gupta’s rapid rise within the BJP—from Mahila Morcha District President to Haryana BJP State President marks a shift toward structured, professional leadership. 1968

Birth In Panipat

Dr. Archana Gupta was born in Samalkha in Panipat district into a respected family. Her grandfather, Lala Sooraj Bhan of Atta village, was a legendary freedom fighter, instilling core values of nationalism and public welfare into her upbringing right from childhood.

1986

Academic Foundations

She shattered domestic barriers by becoming the first woman in her family to pursue higher education and enter the medical profession. She completed her MBBS in 1990 from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak.

1994

Academic Foundations

She went on to achieve her MD in Radio-diagnosis from the same premier institute in 1994, graduating with distinction as a gold medalist.

1995

Professional Practice

Settled in Panipat, where she and her husband established a medical practice, with Dr. Gupta working as a respected senior radiologist.

2010

VHP Engagement

Her initial entry into community service began outside of electoral politics. From 2010 to 2016, she worked extensively with the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP).

2013

Healthcare Activism

She served as the co-convener for the VHP’s Medical Cell (2013–2014) and later as the Haryana Vice President of the Bharatiya Swasthya Rekha healthcare initiative. During this era, she led local medical camps, structural health drives, and welfare projects across rural areas.

2015

District Leadership

Recognizing her grassroots trust, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) brought her into organizational politics. On September 9, 2015, she was appointed District President of the BJP Mahila Morcha (Women's Wing) in Panipat.

2019

Breaking Glass Ceilings

On August 13, 2019, she was elevated to BJP Panipat District President. This made her the first woman in the region's history to head a mainstream district political wing.

2024

State Secretariat

Following successful campaign orchestrations during the 2019 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, she was appointed Haryana BJP State General Secretary on January 5, 2024.

2026

State Presidency

On June 3, 2026, Dr. Archana Gupta was officially appointed Haryana BJP State President, succeeding Mohan Lal Badoli.
